Black out in Netherlands

There is no electricity in Netherlands for the last few hours. The northern area of the country is mainly affected by the issue. The reason of severe electricity issue is caused by power grid overload as reported by a Dutch electricity network operator.

Affected Areas:

  • Capital "Amsterdam"
  • Schiphol Airport
  • Hospitals in Amsterdam
  • Tram and Metro networks in Amsterdam
  • Alarm systems


Thousands of people have been stuck on public transport because the doors will not open as they are controlled electronically.

According to TenneT, the company which is responsible for supplying power in the Netherlands, the outage is caused due to a defect at a substation in Diemen. The cause of issue is currently under investigation.
