Cheap "Android One" phones Arrive in India, Coming Soon in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, Philippines and SriLanka

Google has released the first series of Android One equipped phones in India. The aim is to provide the best quality smartphones in very affordable price to billions of people. Currently Google has launched 3 smartphones in partnership with local companies; "Micromax, Karbonn and Spice".

The 3 handsets named as "Karbonn Sparkle V", "Micromax Canvas A1", and "Spice Dream Uno" possess similar specifications and came up with the set of predefined specifications that has been regulated by Google. They have a 4.5-inch screen, a quad-core Mediatek SoC, a micro SD slot, dual-SIM compatibility, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, expandable storage support via microSD card up to 32GB, a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, a 2-megapixel front camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, and a 1700mAh battery.

The price of the 3 androids is very less i.e; Rs. 6,500 (Indian Rupee) $100. These handsets will run on Android KitKat OS and will also be upgraded to the newest version of Android L.

Google is also accompanying India’s leading telecom company "Airtel" for cheap internet packages for Indian consumers. There will be a special "YouTube app" that will allow users to download videos for offline viewing.

Google Vice President, Sundar Pichai, who is an indian is supervising the project. He said that "Android One tried to solve the problems people face with hardware, software and connectivity while buying affordable smartphones".

India is the first country to receive "Android One". Google will be bringing Android One devices to other countries, including Indonesia, Philippines and South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka by the end of the year, with more countries to follow in 2015. Some big players like Panasonic, HTC, Lenovo and many more will also be part of Android One.

This will effect the high end manufacturers like Samsung and Apple, which are already struggling in the emerging markets. According to International Data Corporation (IDC) June statistics, Android’s dominates the market with 80.2% share, Apple’s iOS equipped smartphones are having 14.8% market share while Windows Phone keep 3.5%.share. With Android One, Google’s Android share will increase more, as believed by Google, the technology will be approached by billions.
